A  specially thank you to the City of Santa Clarita Public Works for lending us Mr. Capprarelli and Mr. Messih yesterday to discuss bridge building design with the students (and also mercilessly but scientifically) destroyed our bridges to find out how strong they were.

In a comment to this post, please share your thoughts (in a paragraph) on this project.

How did your group approach the design process?

What part(s) of the process did you enjoy the most?

What would you do differently if you had a chance to redesign?

Snow flakes, so different

Cold yet always forgiving

Cold body yet warm hearts.

The cup so warm in my palms

But when the warmth covers me

With its warm hug.

Umbrellas tut tut, pat, pat,

The rain so gentle as to sing,

with the chorus of the umbrella.

Snowflakes are forming
The cold wind turns my cheeks pink
and my skin turns pale

                                 Haiku 1

While the wind whistles

Winter breezes flow with me

                            Is it all for me?

Haiku 2

Christmas lights shine at night

It is such a bright night

Is it all for me?

Haiku 3

Cold snowflakes rains over

As snow cushions my feet

Is it all for me?

Thanksgiving Miniature Report

Thanksgiving started on November 27th, 1621. The feast lasted three days with 53 pilgrims and 90 Native Americans. The tradition starts at the table by saying Grace, and then carving the turkey. Turkey usually is stuffed and has gravy on the side. Also, sparkling apple sider is an appropriate drink on Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a day you share with your family, giving thanks to what god gave you. It became an official federal holiday in 1863, when, during the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national day of "Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwells in the Heavens", to be celebrated on the last Thursday in November.

My mom's hot chocolate is as sweet as candy.

Highlighter marks are as bright as the sun.

Multiplication is as easy as adding.

Bunnies are as soft as pillows.

A simile uses the words "as" or "like".  A metaphor does not use those words.  Here is an example of a simile: She was as beautiful as a flower.  Here is an example of a metaphor:  The zoo is a jungle.

The leaves on the sidewalk were like piles of snow on the street

When I try to walk on the sidewalk I felt like I was walking on glass

the leaves flew through the wind like rain falling down

The forest vine

a creeping vine twining around a Lilly hugging it

or capturing it for its first meal

but the vine went on prancing as if wearing a diadem of proudness

reaching up, up, to the sun light grabbing, capturing it

for only itself to keep

until thunder broke out and with it lighting

then it struck

down, down, down, went the proud little vine

pounding to the ground

It was fall, and leaves were all jumping off their trees to run along the streets, drive ways, and all over the town. All the people driving their cars or going to school and doing their normal daily things, would watch the leaves walking along and picking themselves up to fly, with the wind, to another place.

The wavy wind whistled softly to every one that was listening. He blew in peoples faces and sometimes got mad and blew so hard he put his hands in peoples hair and made it all weird. It sounded like: WHOOOOOOOOOOOEEEEEEEEEE!! The winds whistling was like Mickey Mouse whistling a tune.

Fall is a great time to be outside.

All About Fall
Leaves fall from the ground in fall
When leaves fall from the ground they fly in the wind

In fall leaves fall from the sky slowly
In fall leaves fall from the sky in a weird way

All About Fall
In fall leaves fall from the ground
The flowers in fall dance along the big grassy field.
The grass flows throw the wind
All the trees are naked in the fall
