Grade 4  Standards pdf

In our current unit of reading, we're learning about the history of medicince. Excerpts that we'll be reading are:

Sewed up his Heart

The Bridge Dancers

The Story of Susan LaFlesche Picotte

Parent Involvement:

Parents can help build foster reading skills by providing their child with access to a variety of fiction and non-fiction. Most students are better at comprehending fiction text because it often contains easier vocabulary and is more entertaining/attention capturing. Magazines and newspapers are readily-available and are a great source of analysis to help build skill with analyzing expository text. Read an article together or take turns. What do they think it is about? What do they think the author's opinions are? What facts were used? Enter into a dialogue with your child about their reading assignments in history and science. Help them locate the main ideas of the selection. For more practice reading nonfiction, they may read news articles from Scholastic Magazine. Some of the articles contain movies that can also be good for exposing students to new technical vocabulary.
