Explosion Aboard the “Deep Water Horizon.”

In the gulf of Mexico, a few miles off coast, The “Deep Water Horizon,” Exploded! 11 people were killed and 17 were injured. So the coast guard sent ships to wash the fire away, but after that, the oil rig sank.

5,000 through 8,000 barrels of oil have been leaking out ever since.

Workers everywhere have been trying to stop the leaking. One thing they tried is covering the oil and exporting the oil to small ships.

But oil is still leaking as it reaches the coasts of Mississippi and Alabama. Then the president, Obama heard about the oil spill in the gulf of Mexico. So he sent some people to try and cap the spill to prevent oil from leaking out.

But then the riser pipe broke so they had to cut the pipe open before capping the the well. Fortunately they cut the riser pipe so they had to check out what was happening when the submarines where trying to cap the well.

Oil Spills

On April 20th about 52 miles southeast of Venice, Louisiana, there was an explosion on the Deepwater Horizon, an offshore rig. Between 500,000 and 800,000 gallons were spilled everyday. The explosion killed 11 workers. BP was trying to stop the oil leak with a way called “top kill” which is where 2 of the R.O.V.s take one pipe each and attach them to the other 2 pipes and it causes mud to plug up the oil and then it injects concrete over the mud and keeps the oil from coming out again. About a week later, 6,000,000 gallons of oil were spilled. 30 vessels were deployed to help. On May 5th, the oil reached the islands off the coast of Louisiana. Later, they kept using the “top kill” method until the engineers tried a “junk shot”, which is taking shredded trash and shooting it into the pipe, hopefully clogging the pipe. BP announced that even many tried times, both the “top kill” and the “junk shot” had failed. On June 1st , the oil reached Dauphin Island, barrier island in Alabama, and Petit Bois, a barrier island in Mississippi. BP cut away the rest of the well's riser pipe to clear the way for a dome to be lowered into the undersea well.

I love the ocean. I am an ocean girl. Not nature. I love the animals and sea plants. Have you ever touched or seen a dolphin,or maybe saw a seal once before? Have you ever seen a shark up close without any glass in between I have.  I loved it. My favorite animals of the sea are dolphins, seals and sharks.

Seal: I love the way they plead for  food when they see you with fish.

Sharks: I love how they look fierce and I love the way they attack.

Dolphins: I love the way they jump in the waves and make that cute sound, eeh eeh!!!

I think the beach is a pretty neat place to visit. You ca relaxe on the warm sand and hear the waves crashing against he shore.
