"The Southpaw" was a very, very, very good short story. Even though it was short the author wrote the plot, conflict and the revision. I totally loved how the author had two kids, a boy and a girl, writing on sticky notes in an argument, over something stupid.
My favorite character was definitely Janet, but not because she is a girl like me, but because the only other character, Richard, was too annoying. He sort of copied Janet after she wrote, "I hope when you go to the dentist he finds 20 cavities!" and then surprise, surprise, wrote to Janet, ''I hope when you go for your check-up you need your tetanus shot!''
In my perspective Richard wasn't being very nice and was being very rude when he wouldn't let Janet play on the "boys'' baseball team just because she is a girl, "As long as I'm team captain no girls will play on the Mapes Street Baseball,'' Richard commented on a sticky note. Janet made a good argument, especially when she told him her batting average. Her average was a whopping .345!! In case you don't know anything about baseball, like me, that is amazing!! Most players average about .250. Until I started researching this report I had no clue what the average baseball average. I wish that, that was my baseball average. Luckily, that has never happened to me, and I'm glad it hasn't, but some of my best friends have been treated that way. My friend Alison wasn't allowed to play soccer with her brother and his friends because she was a girl. In the Holocaust Jews were limited on what they could do, where they could go, who they could see by the Nazis because of Adolf Hitler. Your probably thinking this is stupid it only happens in stories well, you are wrong it happens all the time to a lot of people including boys, girls, collage students, elementary students, women and men. The list goes on and on and on. In my opinion, Janet was rude, but funny when she wrote, "Congratulations on your unbroken record. Eight straight losses, wow!! I understand you're the laughingstock of New Jersey."
I also loved Janet's character because she was very determined in the argument. She won the argument and was able to play baseball with some of her friends on a girls and boys team, not only because of her determination, but also because of the fact that most of the players on the original team moved away, were sick, broke a bone or they were too busy to commit to playing baseball.
